„Laser-Skulptur“ von Gunter Frentze

The light sculpture in front of the Kunstmuseum Solothurn consists of several laser beams drawing a vast triangle in the night sky above the city, connecting the museum buildings across a distance of around 280 metres. Widely visible from across Solothurn, the work was recommissioned in its new form in late January 2025 after an extended period of inactivity.
Commissioned by Kunstmuseum Solothurn, Laserwerk was tasked with developing the laser engine and safety system from the ground up. A safety system with controlled start-up and continuous verification of the laser path. The beam is returned via two mirrors and validated by light sensors. Start-up uses a slow ramp before enabling full operation. A watchdog monitors the return signal and triggers immediate shutdown and automatic restart if the path is interrupted.
